John Goodman nears deal for Roseanne Barr pilot

GoodmanBarrJohn Goodman is poised to reunite with Roseanne Barr in the NBC comedy pilot "Downwardly Mobile." Goodman is close to finalizing a deal to costar in the pilot from 20th Century Fox TV and scribe Eric Gilliland and Barr. Barr stars as the owner of a mobile home park who becomes a surrogate mother to many of its residents. Goodman will play one of those residents, an ex-Marine who is friendly with Barr's character. Barr and Goodman had sitcom chemistry as spouses Roseanne and Dan Conner in the ABC laffer "Roseanne," which ran from 1988-1997. Goodman's been prominent in a range of supporting roles in recent years, notably on HBO's "Treme" and the Oscar-nommed "The Artist." Contact Cynthia Littleton at cynthia.littleton@variety.com
